    1. Another great book by Portia da Costa

Reviewed: 22 February 2015 by fizzy, a Straight Going Steady Female

I’m a big fan of Portia da Costa. I was looking forward to reading this as soon as it was released. What I love about Portia da Costa books is the characters she creates she gives her characters a past which they eventually overcome in the books.

The book is about a girl called Jess who is a virgin just plodding on through life and she meets the new director of her company and her life changes for good. Through the book there is plenty of humour and sex.

There’s currently is a lot of erotica on sale which contain a lot of BDSM and this made a refreshing change, with only a light BDSM scene witch involved spanking and being tied up.

I loved getting lost in this book and it was a perfect book for reading curled up in bed.

I would recommend Portia da Costa books to anyone looking to read some erotica which has a good story line with great sex scenes.

A great Story line with plenty of erotic scenes.
      Bottom line
A great erotic read with only one light BDSM scene in the book.

    1. A kinky re-write of the classic love story

Reviewed: 7 April 2015 by fantasia fairy, a Straight Single Female

I've heard a lot about Portia Da Costa books and after only reading the 50 Shades books decided to take the plunge and get this one.

This story is wonderfully written. Portia captures the characters perfectly. It was easy for me to imagine everything in the book and put real faces to the characters.

This story is certainly different from most erotic novels where the leading characters spend all the time screwing and literally flogging the hell out of each other. This was delicate but at the same time fierce. There was never a point in the story where you could sit back and think 'this is maybe taken a little too far'. It's not all about the sex either. It's about the relationship between the characters. It's about them helping each other to find themselves.

Portia has a fantastic way of going deep into detail in the erotic scenes without making it seem too dirty. I more than once had to stop reading and go calm down a bit with a toy.

I guess the best way to put it is that Jess is a character you can relate to. You can understand her and how she is feeling, the urges she gets and the choices she makes.

The ending is fantastic. About halfway though the story you get an idea of how it's going to end only for it to be blown out of the water nearer the end, leaving you totally clueless as to what will really happen right down the the very last sentence.

A great read and very much enjoyed.

The subtleness of the sex scenes.
The classic billionaire part. A regular guy would have been better.
      Bottom line
Fantastic, emotional and erotic. Not one to read when your parents are around!

    1. Seductive enough, but echoes Fifty Shades a bit too much

Reviewed: 4 February 2016 by Luv bunny, a Straight Married Female

I am a bit late writing this for Lovehoney, seeing as the book has been discontinued here, but I have only just gotten around to reading it.

Having read In Too Deep by Portia Da Costa, I was keen to read other stories by her. This seemed a good choice as I enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey despite some of the cringeworthy quotations.

This book has a decent enough plotline. A virgin female (Jess), working for an insurance brokers meets the billionaire tycoon (Ellis McKenna) who has recently acquired the firm where she works.

He has lost his wife and two daughters under tragic circumstances. Not over the grief and guilt of losing them, he is emotionally unavailable for a 'proper' relationship and instead prefers liaisons, as he calls them.

Jess, meanwhile, has put her life on hold, and has not met anyone she considers 'Mr Right'. The story details their lustful encounters, which is mainly vanilla sex, with one scene of light BDSM thrown in towards the end.

The sex scenes are tastefully depicted, and the plot shows the emotional development of the characters. The proofing of the story is not brilliant, however, which is a bit distracting at times.

Overall it's a pleasant enough read before bedtime, but it is quite typical of the genre and theme.

Easy reading, the emotional development of the characters.
      Terrible proofing by editors.
      Bottom line
      Seductive bedtime reading.

    1. A love story

Reviewed: 22 February 2015 by delilahxx, a Straight Single Female

This is only the second Portia Da Costa book I have read. I do enjoy her writing style, but some of the descriptions she uses make me cringe. 'Love eye' and 'slippery channel' to name two! If you can get over those cringeworthy descriptions you might be able to enjoy the book.

This one is a real love story type book with an erotic edge, and I found myself looking forward to reading it to find out what happened next, always the sign of a good book. There weren't as many sex scenes in it as there are in other books, I would have preferred more.

The first chapter starts with Jess and is written from her perspective. She is a virgin in her late twenties, and I was worried this would take up the entire book, and although it is a bit like that in the beginning, it doesn't carry on that way. She is late for work and gets caught in the rain, getting soaked in the process. A car pulls up and inside is the new owner of the company where she works, and he offers her a lift. A perfect scenario that never happens in real life!

The second chapter is then written from his perspective. Ellis is a billionaire, tall, good looking the whole works. He is also a widower, his family having been killed, and he has sworn off falling in love ever again. The perfect ingredients for a love story.

The whole of the book is written in alternate chapters, first by Jess and then Ellis, and I think this works really well to help you understand each character properly.

What did surprise me about this book is the sex scenes, when they happen, are really quite vanilla. I assume this is because Jess is a virgin. Some of the scenes are a turn on, but others I could read the whole way through with no hint of desire. I did expect more sex scenes, and more exciting sex scenes overall.

The story is a good read and kept me gripped, it is focused on Jess and Ellis as you would expect. Although there are a few other characters through the book, I found them uninteresting, and was waiting until Jess and Ellis were together again.

Fairly early on there is a hint that Ellis is into BDSM, and this is hinted at throughout the book. Although nothing happens until near the end where there is one solitary spanking scene, and nothing else.

Overall if you are looking for a love story with a few fairly arousing sex scenes then this is a great book. I did enjoy reading it. But if you want more sex, more exciting sex or more characters then I'd advise getting a different, more suitable book.

A true love story with some erotic sex scenes.
Not enough sex scenes, and it was all vanilla sex and masturbation.
      Bottom line
A good read but not enough interesting sex for me.
