And as Chantelle says” “Butt plugs can increase your sexual pleasure, no matter what your gender and sexual orientation is.” What’s not to love?!

Chantelle’s advice on Butt Plugs

Are you a nipsy novice looking for a bit of advice? Chantelle’s here to help by answering a few questions she’s often asked when it comes to butt plugs.

Q. How do you use a butt plug safely?

If you’re new to the world of butt plugs, Chantelle’s outlined six steps worth following to keep your booty safe while you go deep diving:

1. Pick the right one for you

First things first: start small. Chantelle doesn’t recommend starting with the largest butt plug. “Instead, start with a beginner one, or a prostate massager because it is a little thinner. What is the right butt plug for your needs in regards to materials or size? It’s a good idea to do some research. Plus! You can always work your way up.”

One of Chantelle’s favourite things about butt plugs is that, with so many different options to choose from, you don’t have to stick to the same plug the whole time! As you get more comfortable and experienced, she suggests progressing to something a little more sizable or maybe throwing a few vibrations into the mix.

2. Use a specialty anal lubricant

When it comes to lubricants, it’s important to remember that not all lubes are compatible with all sex toy materials. You want to make sure you’re getting the best lube for the job that’s going to enhance your anal pleasure without causing your toy to disintegrate prematurely.

According to Chantelle: “Water-based lube is perfect for silicone butt plugs, but you can use silicone or oil-based with glass or steel butt plugs.”

Regardless of the lube base, when it comes to anal action just make sure you use a specialty anal lube. They’re extra thick, slick and long-lasting, making them perfect for rump ranging.

And remember - when we’re talking about lube and anal, more is MORE. Add a good dash and then some to make sure you’ve got plenty of the slippery stuff to help you on your way to peachy pleasure town.

3. Communicate with your partner

When you’re first thinking about dabbling in buttsex, communication is key. Chantelle recommends: “Talk to your sexual partner about how you would like to incorporate it into your sex life. Would you like to start by putting it in yourself? Or are you happy to take it slow and your partner can put it in. Communication is key and you need to give and gain consent before trying any form of sexual activity with a sexual partner, including backdoor play.”

4. Maintain good hygiene practices

“Anal play requires consideration around cleanliness,” says Chantelle. “You want to make sure that you are taking hygiene safety onboard. Make sure you are washing your butt plug with warm soapy water or a toy cleaner before and after use. You could also put a condom over it, especially if you are using a toy that you would be sharing.”

5. Consider your body and the mood

There’s no doubt that anal sex is a lot of fun, but it can also be a deeply emotional experience for some. Chantelle recommends asking yourself: “Is today a good day to do anal play?” If that answer is a big, fat yes, then Chantelle suggests: “Eating light meals, having a hot shower or bath to relax the muscles and taking some time to get aroused before backdoor play will make anal much more enjoyable."

6. Go slow

“There’s no need to rush putting in the butt plug,” says Chantelle. “In fact, taking things too fast can be a real mood killer.”

When it comes to inserting your plug, Chantelle says: “Take care to insert the butt plug slowly, and begin by pushing only the tip of the plug into your anus. Take a moment to breathe and relax your anal sphincter muscles. When you’re feel ready, push it slightly deeper. If using with a partner I think its a good idea to tell them to ‘drop’ their body and watch them relax before putting it in. Deep breathing and body relaxation will help with easy insertion. And, if its not working, take a break! It doesn’t always work the first time.”

7. Wear the butt plug during erotic play

Lastly, Chantelle notes: “Wearing a butt plug during other sex acts can bring further stimulation to the genitals. Especially if you are using a vibrating butt plug. Try using one that’s app or remote controlled so you or your partner can alter the vibration level. You could use one during masturbation, oral sex, vaginal penetration, hand jobs or BDSM practices.”

We’ve no doubt that with Chantelle’s expert anal plug tips, you’ll be able to take your booty play to an orgasmic new level!

Q. Do you have advice for beginners who are new to anal play or butt plugs?

“Remember that, unlike the vagina, the rectum doesn't self-lubricate. It’s important for all genders to use plenty of lube and go slow before using a butt plug,” says Chantelle. “Butt plugs are cleverly shaped for anal play. They usually have narrow tips that get wider toward the middle and then narrow again to a slim neck at the base so your rectum can hold them comfortably. But the rectum can act like a vacuum and suck objects inside, so you need to make sure you are using a plug with a flared bottom, pull cord, or a ring. This stops the butt plug from getting lost inside you.”

Not only do flared bases stop the butt plug from getting lost inside you, but these wider bottoms often provide a bit of extra perineum stimulation while you wear them, so you really can’t go wrong.

Q. Which lube is best for using with a butt plug?

When it comes to anal lubricants Chantelle says the best lube for the job is largely dependant on the material of the plug.

When it comes to silicone toys, Chantelle suggests: “It’s best to use water-based anal lube. This is because silicone-based lubes aren't compatible with silicone-based toys. Silicone attracts to itself, so using the two together can warp your plug and create a tacky texture.”

As for glass or steel toys, Chantelle advises: “Silicone or oil lubricant is a great option because they’re much thicker and typically last longer.”

Q. Why do people use butt plugs - is it just to prepare for anal sex or do people use them for pleasure?

As Chantelle puts it: “Warming up for anal sex is just one of the many reasons that butt plugs are used. In fact, they’re there to bring pleasure to many erotic scenarios! Within BDSM play they can be used as part of Dom/Sub work.”

From making the Sub play with the plug before using it on them to making the Sub wear the butt plug out in public for several hours, Chantelle highlights a number of ways butt plugs can be incorporated into BDSM play.

Chantelle says butt plugs can also be used for double penetration (DP) for vagina owners: “Vaginal sex can be easily enjoyed while the butt plug is in the back, and you can even add more sensation with a vibrating butt plug.”

“Handjobs and clitoral play whilst a butt plug is in can also bring wonderful pleasure… and many people love receiving oral sex while they have a butt plug in.”

Last but not least, Chantelle says: “You can also masturbate with a butt plug in by using your fingers, a dildo or a male masturbator on the front!”

From preparing for anal sex/penetration to increasing the pleasure factor, there are truly so many different ways that people can enjoy using butt plugs.

Now that Chantelle’s answered all of your burning questions about butt play, we're hoping you’re still keen to give deep diving a crack.
