    1. Sonic BOOM - intense pleasure waves

Reviewed: 25 October 2017 by Jezebella, a Bisexual Married Female

I'm a big fan of clitoral suction toys, so when Lovehoney asked for secret testers of a new one I jumped at the chance.

It comes packaged in a tasteful black cardboard box, nothing special, but it is nice and stylish. Inside the box, you get a sachet of LELO lube, a USB charger and the Sona.

The front of the toy is made from seamless silicone, which feels really nice to the touch. The back is made from shiny metallic plastic, with LELO inscribed into it. I think this makes the product look tacky, as the silicone is much nicer than the plastic, but nevermind.

There are three buttons on the silicone side of the toy. The bottom button turns the toy on and increases the intensity, the middle button changes the setting, and the top button decreases the intensity and turns the toy off.

The LELO Sona is different to the other clitoral stimulators I have tried. It uses sonic waves to pulse air at the clit. There is a cup at the top of the toy which you place on your clitoris. Inside this cup, you can see a kind of mechanical plate which pulses very quickly up and down. This pushes air out, causing a very quick tapping sensation.

In use, the Sona is incredible. The pulsations feel really intense on my clit and bring me to orgasm very quickly. It's a difficult sensation to describe, it's as if my clit is pulsing but in a really good way. The patterns drive me wild and I feel like they are even more intense than the constant speed. This is rare for me as I usually don't get on well with patterns.

I also found the Sona to be a great addition to PIV sex. The toy is curved in an arch shape. This meant I could rest it easily on his stomach while I was on top, and the cup was left at the right angle and position to be in contact with my clit. The shape didn't make it any easier to hold on to during solo play, but during sex, it did mean it could easily and comfortably fit between our bodies.

The Sona helped me have a toe-curling, very vocal orgasm during sex. I stopped using it after this first orgasm but the extra sensitivity it had left me with leading me to have a further 2 orgasms very soon after, using just my partner's penis.

The only thing I don't like about the Sona is there aren't any warm-up modes. The lowest settings are really really intense for me. I like a little gradual teasing to lead up to my orgasms, and with the Sona, there is no option to do this.

I would also like to point out that the packaging goes on about how "silent" and "discreet" the Sona is. This is a lie. The toy is noisy, particularly on the patterns. It's not a problem for me, but if you need to be quiet this is not the best choice for you.

Overall, I have been very pleasantly surprised by the Sona. I have discovered a new and intense sensation in the sonic waves and I think it may become a toy I reach for during sex often.

      Intense new sensations, incredible orgasms
No warm-up intensities, starts off a little too intense, loud.
      Bottom line
A fantastic addition to sex and solo play.

    1. Hard work

Reviewed: 15 November 2017 by hippy, a Straight Single Female

I thought about this for a day as it's not cheap even on offer for me. I saw the pink was sold out and thought I had to take the plunge before the black went too.

Ordered too late on Friday, so had to wait for Monday for the Royal Mail and I was so excited to try this new concept for orgasms it was a long wait.

It comes in a lovely black box with the charge cable and a black bag that may or may not be for storage but is now and a sachet of lube. The silicone feels soft and the plastic that looks like gold metal also makes it look expensive. The nozzle does remind me of what the nurse pops in my ear to take my temp!

It was a very long two hours while I waited it for to charge. The two hour charge gives you one hours play time it sounds a lot, but I'll explain below.

Finally charged I put it against the back of my hand and the only think I can compare the sound to is a whoopee cushion. I looked again and you aren't meant to actually let it touch. I'm glad as at low power was it powerful and loud.

Following the instructions on their site and the reviews, I applied the lube and got down to business, so excited to try the new idea, a sonic toy that massages 75% more of your clit than a standard vibrator. I was so hooked. I tried it on my nipples and they jumped to attention. The rubber circle happily vibrates inside the nozzle by about 1cm and it felt so different.

      Now to the prize.

My first thought was I needed another hand. To hold yourself open is fun with slippy lube and then to hold the toy. I could just manage. Unfortunately the way it fits in your hand or mine at least meant I couldn't reach the buttons. Moving through cycles or speed was difficult. If I moved my hand wrong the nozzle hit my clitoris and I jumped a mile as its way too powerful to touch such a sensitive part. I stopped and went through the cycles until I found one the closest to what I'd use with my other toys.

Normally you move the toy until it buzzes on your clit. You can't do this as it can't touch, and as my body isn't perfectly flat moving it meant it was hitting and making me jump then my clit had to settle before it liked the feeling again. As it is sonic it's blowing air. As the disc vibrates the lube doesn't last long. Reapplied I tried again. I was still struggling to get the right area and close enough to feel it but not close enough it touched. I was trying to get the right speed but I couldn't do this one handed without it moving, so had to let go and the trying it lower/higher.

Find the right area again, start to feel I'd got it right and more lube was needed. Frustrated I'd start again, and frustrated was the word. Sexually and I had such high hopes. Remember I said it had an hours charge? It ran out before I'd reached orgasm.

Another two hours charging and I'd learned so would be easier right? No. The same problems plus every time I got it in just the right place it would need more lube or would hit my clit, which it doesn't like because it's not made for that and it's just too strong. From there I had to let it settle and then repeat. This again went in circles until the battery again went and I went to bed very frustrated.

Day two and again the same problems. I either needed a third hand, or to get this at the exact angle it needed. Finally I hit the angle and wow, it felt amazing, but what do us women do when it starts getting good. I'll give you a clue - we don't stay still. Yes, it hit the clit again, which didn't like it and I was back where I started.

I did achieve orgasm finally but I think I'd used the vibration of the disc against my finger where I was touching the nozzle so was a vibration orgasm as it felt normal. I was promised an amazing orgasm and I wasn't giving up.

Determined to get this elusive orgasm I tried yet again after it charged... again...

I had the same air plus lube issues but I was getting much closer than I had before. I was building, then it hit again. Gritting my teeth I tried yet again, just as it was building, cramp from staying still so long.

Feeling cursed and about to throw it out the window I tried one last time. Right speed, right pattern, right angle and finally it happened. Yes it was better but also it did feel different than other ways. Hard to describe but yes it did feel like it reached deeper nerves. And I didn't have to whip it away quick before it made my clit over sensitive and ruined the pleasure. I could hold it there and if I had the battery power left and my muscles weren't crying from my previous and returning cramp I believe I could have carried on to these multiple orgasms it say are possible.

I am going to persevere. There are so many good reviews on many sex toy sites and magazines it must be good mustn't it? It can't just be me finding it hard although I've read reviews where staying still is an issue for others.

Lovehoney are great that, if I find I just can't get along with it, I can send it back. The concept of the sonic waves is brilliant, it does do what it says on the tin. It's just not as easy as it should be. I'm sure this will become a popular method for clit orgasms. Once we are all used to it and don't have to battle to learn a totally new method then this will be amazing. Someone said they could use it between them and their partner during sex, I have no idea how.

Would I recommend it, depends how much time and patience you have and how still you can keep. I'm still not sure whether this will become a favourite toy or it will go back as it will gather dust.

Sonic waves is a great new way for clit sensation.
It's just very difficult to use while you are learning what to do.
      Bottom line
Great idea but you need to learn a totally new way to masturbate.

    1. Too intense (for me)

Reviewed: 19 November 2017 by S.G., a Straight Going Steady Female

I am an avid fan of the Womanizer (W500) but before the Womanizer was in my life, LELO's Gigi had been my favourite toy (which I used for clitoral stimulation). So when I saw that LELO, such a classy and high-quality company, was making a sonic toy, I was excited. I couldn’t decide whether to get the Sona or the Sona Cruise but finally decided on the regular Sona.

The motor doesn't seem to sputter out or stop as I feared. It did seem to sputter, slow and even stop more so on the patterns but I prefer the constant setting and the motor continued strong enough on constant even when applying moderate pressure.

The best way I can describe the Sona is the classic way vibrators are described: rumbly vs buzzy. Although Lelo's vibrators seem pretty rumbly to me, I dare say the Sona desensitized my clit in a buzzy way.

The Lelo Sona vs the Womanizer

I thought that the “sonic” wave and pulsation sensations would differ more from the Womanizer but the Sona was actually like a Turbo-Womanizer. I prefer the soft nozzle of the Womanizer much more as Sona’s was hard. The Womanizer’s light-up nozzle feature is pretty cool and helpful, too.

I found the Sona’s pulsations too high-pitched buzzy for me. The Womanizer delivers deliciously rumbly and throbby pulsations. (I don't think you could get more rumbly than the Womanizer — it reminds me of an old Chevy idling at a red light.) The lowest/slowest setting on the Sona is like the highest/fastest setting of the Womanizer. I need a low rumble for warm-up and that wasn't an option with the Sona. After it left my clit numb and hanging with no orgasm, I waited 10 minutes and got out my trusty, rumbly Womanizer.

I do feel that the Sona is a beautiful piece and it’s soft and nice to hold. I can’t wait to try it in the bathtub as it is waterproof (and my Womanizer W500 isn’t)! And I will continue to experiment with the Sona as all sex toys have a learning curve... but I don't see it as ever cumming close to the Womanizer for me, personally.

Beautiful luxury design and feel. Price.
      No low setting. Buzzy.
      Bottom line
The Sona is too potent/high-powered for me.
